First coolant filter

It has been 14 months, and the flow never slowed, so I decided to change my first coolant filter element. Didn't find much of anything in it. Why am I so lucky? Whatever the reason, I'll take it!

No, I'm still running Gold. The system had been flushed twice just before I installed it. Once by the dealer using VC-9 after an oil cooler job, and again by me after I got it back (no VC-9), because I didn't trust the dealer to have done it correctly.

You got one of the good ones, hope you have ELC coolant in it.

I just installed my Sinister Diesel coolant filter today. It was surprisingly easy. Hope I'm as lucky as you.

That is exactly what my filter looked like after 3k miles. At the time, the coolant was original (46k miles on the truck). I've since flushed with VC9, but haven't change the filter again because the flow hasn't stopped. I'll probably change it every couple of years just for piece of mind.

On a more serious note. It's because of people on this site that I finally installed one. That's what I love about this site. Aways someone willing to share their experience.

Hope mine looks as clean as yours when I change it next week. Filters are only $7 so I'm going to change at 500 miles

BP,
Glad to see that clean filter. Will you be sticking with the Gold coolant or switching over to ELC? Just curious, i have have 142000 on my truck, been running GOLD since day 1. I flushed and installed a filter about 25k back. I changed the filter a few times - never found much inside of it. Temps still look good, i will be changing this filter soon - will have been in there over a year, i will let yall know what i find. Have been kicking around the idea of switching to ELC...but not convinced just yet.

THanks

I'm sticking with it for now. I only have about 15k on this Gold fill since the last flush. I have it on the schedule to change at 100k, and I am at 85k now, so at least another year to think about it. I'll keep an eye on the filters too, and as long as I don't see any jelly happening then I might stick with the Gold.

I like the idea of the ELC, but availability concerns me if I'm stuck in BFE someday and need some coolant fast. I will keep reading about what you all are doing here at FTE.

Maybe that oil cooler did an awesome job of getting rid of that nasty casting sand for you.

Sound like a good plan, I will probably stay with Gold or G-05 as well, keep us updated.
