I don't know if I have been eating to many burgers but the steering wheel on my 64 f-600 seems to be getting closer to my stomach every time I get into my truck. it's not that I am over weight. I don't have a problem in any other cars or trucks I have just my 64.
Is it possible to fix this problem? may be a smaller wheel or can the steering column angle be changed to lift it slightly? any suggestions welcomed, and don't say go on a diet. thanks Brian.
I'm sure you could easily find a smaller custom steering wheel at any car parts shop that could easily be swapped out with your bigger wheel. I'd consider this only if you have power steering, of course.
This may just be a band-aid fix, however. The real problem could be that your cab mounts are deteriorating. If your steering box is mounted solidly to the frame, and your cab is starting to sag, I could see this combination very easily start moving the steering wheel down towards the seat.
Try checking your cab mounts, steering box mount on the frame, and steering column mount in the cab, and see if you can spot any problems at any of these points.
Hopefully you can find the root of the problem. Giving up burgers wouldn't be a suitable option in my case, either.
