Coming back from lunch just now, heard a "click" when I turned a corner, and the steering started catching like something was rubbing, keeping me from turning the wheel, and now the steering wheel is "wiggly" like some nuts somewhere below the tilt mechanism are looose as a goose. It's not the tilt-wheel thing, because that locks down good still.
Anybody experienced this? And how much do I take off to find the problem? Is there a U-joint just below the steering wheel mount (cause it is tight).
there is a bearing in the column before it goes through the fire wall. if its a tilt there is u-joint at the tilt. there is a bracket under the dash that holds the steering column up and there is a u-joint just outside the fire wall in the engine bay.

I pulled the steering wheel today, still hoping to find the problem that's allowing the steering wheel to feel sloppy/wiggle. Still can't find the problem; there are about 3 - C-clips on the shaft that the steering wheel mounts to. Has anybody had to take these C-clips off? There is a spring on the shaft under that, so I wasn't prepared to go through all of that yet. Is there some kind of "crush sleeve" or something under there?
