CARNAGE pics.
It never has before, and isn't now. I apologize for the miscommunication. The hottest it has gotten with the new rad, electric fans is about 190-195. I don't think that is anywhere close to overheating?
I've been blasting around town for days now.
When I'm rolling, it never goes above 160. If I were to stop and let it idle for 10-15 minutes, it would get up to 190-195. Still not bad. Both fans are pulling air through the rad, I held a piece of paper in front of each fan and they sucked the paper to the rad.
On a side note, I tried out some of the functions on my new GPS speedometer. It has a 0-60mph timer, and a 1/4 mile timer.
It's kinda tough to get starting line traction with a 460
, so with tires scratching for grip, and 3.25 gears, I squeaked out a 7 second 0-60 time.I screwed up the 1/4 mile run. I've only ever run the truck in the 1/8th mile, and I know that the trans shifts into third as you cross the line in the 1/8th mile. So, when the truck shifted to third, I took my foot off the gas, figuring I was finished, only to realize I was only half way! I stomped it again, and got a 14?? 1/4 mile time. Oh well, it just means I'll have to try again.
I then bought a twin fan set up from Summit and been running it since. Back then I just put a switch on the dash and only turned them on if I was sitting for any kind of time. If I was moving at all the ol 428CJ never went over 180*. This is a 3 core brass radiator(original one I had recored from 2 core).
About 5 yrs ago I got tired of messing with remembering to turn it on so I bought a thermo switch from summit(turns on 180*) and put it in the thermostat housing and wired one fan to a relay. The other I still have on the switch as a back up. Never need it.
