im pissed i was driving my truck when all hell broke loose i heard a loud sound almost like when an IC boost explodes, returned home (lucky i was only half a mile away) to see what happened and thats when i saw this
Tore my brand new rad
And my $100 fan
You can bearly see the cracks on the fan but its useless now. Im going back to my stock fan. It did great labor day weekend
My motor mounts check out, dispite my milage and so does my rad this can only mean the fan blades had to flex enough to hit my rad. So for now just a word of caution it was great at first but after this im not risking it. Im not the only one i read several post and various forums and there was always one or two guys with the same tragic experience as me.
Forgive me for laughing a little...but the same thing happened to me right before Labor Day last year. It was a little more catastrophic, though, as I ended up with a new fan, radiator, water pump, and fan clutch.
The OEM replacement fan clutch will get it about 1/4" closer to the motor. If you're running the original fan clutch, it might not be a bad idea to replace it anyway. Otherwise, spacing washers would be a fine idea.
The real problem, though, is that it rubs on the fan shroud, which causes the fan to deform and ultimately hit the radiator. It only takes a little touch, then it'll grab and the rest is history. On the 2nd time around, I completely cut the flat area off the fan shroud, as have most other people who've done this mod (and live to tell about it).
Check for a Mishimoto radiator on Amazon. Someone posted a while back that Amazon had them deeply discounted. Only slightly more than the Spectra Aluminum rad I bought from AutoZone.
Had it on since March of this year did fine , i had a used fan on before my labor weekend trip and did fine. I just installed this new one just after i got back from labor day weekend. It happened when i slammed on the skinny pedal. The fans are identical so im not sure what happend. Thank god for my commercial account at autozone. They replaced it for free and gave me six gallons of concentrate antifrezee for free as a good will for being with them for years.

I was not aware of the fan shroud, from the time i installed the fan since march i read and read and no one mention the fan shroud your rhe first. Thanks man
Thats why i love this site you guys help alot. But for the mean time im keeping my stocker for now
I've read about it a few times hitting the shroud. I have checked mine many times and all seems fine. I've ran it for a couple years with no issues. It really sucks some guys have bad luck with it.
I trimmed the front flat area of the shroud away where LeoJr's picture shows when I installed the 6.0 fan about a year ago. I drive on a lot of twisty bumpy mining roads and the truck frame and motor mounts get flexed pretty good. So far the 6.0 fan has stayed clear of its surroundings. Not sure if trimming the shroud is a 100% solution but I haven't heard of anyone having fan interference problems when the shroud's been trimmed.
