EGR - plug in second valve?

What would happen if I plugged in a spare EGR valve into the wiring harness while leaving the other EGR valve installed?

What I've read might happen:

1) Electric fan might not work properly
2) Low flow EGR warning light
3) Eventual crud buildup in EGR cooler

I'm not too concerned with #2 & 3, but I pull some big hills with my '06 E-450 RV on a regular basis and don't want it to overheat. I swapped out the original EGR valve a couple of years ago (it wasn't too bad, not wet, just some soot) for a new one. I still have the old EGR valve - would plugging that in keep the fan working?

The wiring dosent really care where the valve is, it will work just fine as long as one of them is plugged in.

Why do you want to plug in the other valve?

Trying to fix an issue with acceleration when the engine is hot. Black smoke and a pop - not sure what it could be. Turbo fart, EGR, injector problem??? Engine runs great when cold, but after an hour or so it gets cranky.

Whole story on another thread, but it's getting too long and plenty of dead ends

How do I check the injectors? There have been no CEL or codes thrown yet.

to tell for sure you would need an unbalanced contribution test.
my truck acted funny some times when it was warmed up.
ended up replacing 5 injectors after they failed the contribution test.

couple ways, most require more than just scan gauge or Torque pro.

Buzz test... Forscan can do this
contribution test... something like AE
and maybe bubble test?

Also watch VGT, for 85% or 15%. Its commanded, not actual, but if boost is slow to build, that could be it. Can you get a turbo fart?

Your comment was popping underway after warmed up and it could be be injector.

AE still has not fixed the contribution test.
They show good when you get dips with something
like IDS to do the same scan.

Ya, AE let me down with the contribution test when I bought my truck. Everything showed good but there was a couple with stiction and that doesn't show up at idle...which is the only speed AE can do that test.

Serious thread drift....So in response to the original question, all I've got so far is jswartz84 saying the engine will run OK with the spare EGR valve plugged in as a dummy. Right?

I thought your original question was if the fan operation would be normal, and as long as that second EGR is electrically ok, then the answer to that question, which includes that all other things affecting fan operation are also ok, is Yes.

I think folks just got going on helping you with the root problem... Engine running ok is the question they were running with...

It surely can't hurt to try it.
The electronics will detect the egr and if set up as a dummy, should open and close as directed.
Not sure you will see any difference unless you know for a fact that the original egr valve is bad.
However, if you have already replaced it with your new egr valve and have not seen any difference, not sure what you expect as a result?

I put the dummy EGR valve in this weekend. I had to pull the electrical harness up to get enough room to work under the hood, and the EGR connector didn't have much cord to work with. Guess Ford doesn't want to use too much wire. I tie-wrapped the dummy EGR so it won't go wandering. It's not something that can easily be reversed by the side of the road due to access.

Anyway, the E-450 runs fine in the driveway. I got it up to temperature, and the fan seems to want to keep up with it's heat removal activities. I'll have to take it for a long drive soon.
