So, as I've said before I like to search for things first but this time I need answers fast. My new bearing came in. I changed it and it took less then 10 minutes. Walking back to the truck I noticed this.
Then while looking for where the coolant leak was coming from I find this
Yes, those wires are pulled out except for one.
And here's where the coolant is coming from.
And this is where I'm at and don't know how to pull the clutch fan to get to the water pump. I'm in deep now guys. Got any advice or tips?
The severed wiring is for the clutch fan. Is there a part #? Whole thing have to be replaced I'm assuming?
Some part stores will rent/loan the fan wrenches. I have one that uses an impact hammer, (air hammer). Look on line there are a few other ways to get it off. Where are you located? If close you can borrow mine.
I sure do appreciate it but I'm in Florida. I posted before looking just to get the ball rolling. I just watched dieseltech ron's video's and he showed how to use the airhammer method that you're talking about. I'll give that a try first. If that doesn't work, I'm off to advance or O'reillys.
So, I managed to get it off with a pipe wrench and a crow bar. Also, the grooved idler pulley that I replaced the bearing in gets to be replaced now since I noticed the pulley was backing itself off the bearing. I removed that assembly and took note of how easy it was to move the pulley on and off the bearing. I can't catch a break. I've decided to repair rather then replace the clutch fan wiring. I know many may disagree with my decision but a new clutch fan is something that is just not in the budget right now. Wife's due next month. Income wise she is out of commission so I'll have to do what I can with what I've got. Can't wait for the boy to get here though.
If you try to repair the wiring where it is chopped off by the fan, find some tight fitting conduit or pvc of some type to hold the wiring straight, otherwise it will happen again. Over time, the harness stretches out and creates enough slack to allow the fan to contact it.
Also, verify that the clutch is actually working after you repair the wiring. 9 times of 10, the slip ring was damaged in the process and does not allow the clutch to work properly.
Okay, repaired the harness, got it back together. Fan definately works. I actually had never heard it before. At work now so I'll have to describe what it's doing later to see if it sounds right.
