Hi guys....my iSimple unit came today. I did a temporary connection to check it out. It works fine! The display for running time alternates between 1:00 & 2:00...which is annoying but nornal. Also, the disc buttons (at least in my case) work going forward to change from album to album. The track buttons go forward or backwards from track to track.
When I saw the box had arrived, I had to try it...I'll do it nicely when I have some time. I just hooked up a 12v power supply until I can look up the best place to tap 12v constant, and mount the box.
Now..a word of caution. I used some masking tape to protect the dash area surrounding the radio when I was working. The tape pulled the black paint off the dashboard. I had no idea it was painted. So...one day I'll be pulling the bezel and repainting.
I used ISFD72. Judging by the box it came in, it's likely discontinued now...but I found them for sale on the web. Remember that only iPods with the larger 30 pin connector will work and it does charge the iPod when connected. (There may be some kind of adapter that will convert to a lightning cord?)
I also have a similar unit by the same firm in my 2006 Lincoln. That unit displays track info, etc on the touch screen. This one is much less advanced, but works well to play through the factory unit.
My gripes? I can only go forward from album to album, and from the factory radio there's no way to start and stop playback...you need to use the iPod controls for that. I do understand there's a way to set up playlists, etc...but for my limited use of this vehicle...I think it'll be fine.
I was thinking of getting some type of mount for my iPod, but will likely just run the cable into the console and lift out the iPod when in use.
Finally, it's important to remember the era the vehicles, radios and adapter were made. With that considered, it's a good bit of kit...
One final note. The directions have you set up a ground and constant 12v to the iSimple unit. I've contacted the company to see why "key on" couldn't be used. My concern is current drain...
