Shift **** swap

Might be a silly question, but Id rather do it right the first time. The PO put a 5sp shift **** on my 4sp shifter and Im putting a 4spd **** back on. Its splined but wasn't to hard to come off. My question is, whats the best way to reattach these? JB weld? Anyone use anything else?

I used black electrical tape on mine! It worked like a charm

If you ever want to get it off again, buy a new one and beat it on with a rubber hammer.

I got a new **** from Ford on ebay. I would much prefer not to use a form of glue to put it on there but am afraid it will pop off. I got the JB weld, and I also have a rubber hammer. If I use the JB weld, do I just place it on top of the gear stick or where its splined as well?

JB Weld? Do you never plan on replacing this **** ever again? If not then go for it, put it in the splines.

If you DO think you might want to replace it again someday then I suggest using something to build up the diameter of the stick and then pounding the handle on with a hammer.

Me... I'd just take the shifter off and build the metal up with my welder. If I ever want to use a different **** I can always grind it down or build it up more. It's just steel.

If you have a new ****, and it is the correct one for your stick, it's not going to come off if you just pound it on there with a rubber hammer. If you've ever tried to take one off, you know they fight to stay on there.
