I'm experiencing trouble fitting, aligning the brake peddle swing assy from the donor 73 into my 66. All the fasteners are installed in the firewall for both the brakes and the steering. The trouble lies with the connections for both to the dash. It looks like it will line up but will need some massaging.Could anyone share their experiences or req modifications necessary to connect these. Pics would be great!
Cheers
Don't know what you are running into with the column, should be a bolt in. Please give more info.
I still have my original 66 3spd brake pedal, although I have added new connect holes a couple times before I got it where I wanted it. I'll add a photo and try to help best I can.
John,
I need to see more to the left. To see the bolted conn at the front facing the driver. Or a picture straight on, I'm trying to see right where the column disappears under the dash. One of a number of differences with the brackets is the 73 bracket seems to push the steering column down further than the 66. Whats happening behind the instrument panel is :
The support brackets that extend down from the bottom of the windshield has two holes in it,
The dash itself has two holes in it,
The pedal swing bracket has two captured nuts.
As I said before they, (all 6) holes are very close to lining up and I believe i could run one long 4 or 5 inch x 5/16" bolt thru with jam nuts top and bottom where needed and catch all of them.
My cab is off and I don't really want steering line up issues later?
Were you req to do any cutting behind or under the curtain to make yours fit?
Why did you need to drive new holes in the pedal arm?
The firewall, floor pan, engine bay, are pretty much the same from 65 to 79. The brake pedal connect is different and has to be modded to fit. I had mine working and decided to adjust it a bit. The column in my truck is from my 76 donor, connected to the Saginaw gear from same. The dash cuff is shorter on the donor. You either retain the original or use longer bolts. No cutting to mount is required. The Saginaw column is 2 1/2" shorter than the original because of the longer top og the gear but overall length is same for both.
Send me a pm with a return email and I will try to help with some photos.
Hey John.
think my mistake is trying to make the 73 brake pedal, pedal swing bracket and column fit my 66.
think it needs to be - make the 73 brake pedal fit my 66 pedal swing bracket only
your thoughts...
Thanks.
I think I recall that difference, decided to leave it and all worked out. Some guys use a 1" spacer out on the firewall behind the booster. I chose to modify the contact points instead. It has worked for a dozen plus years.
As for the pedal, it wasn't broke so I didn't fix it.
