Front U joint question

Front U joint question
So the front u joint in my 2001 Expy is loose and making a clicking sound. Its the u joint on the rear of the front drive shaft. Do I just remove the front four bolts to drop it? Can I drive the truck without the front drive shaft in?

You can run without a front drive shift in 2wd mode no problem. I have heard someone talk about running in fwd with 4wd engaged with the rear shaft gone too. In the snow , not dry pavement.

Yes but the driveshaft will always turn for your model year since there is no way to disengage it from the front axle.
