front drive shaft

Hello, I have a 2000 4WD XLT Expedition and have some vibration in the front end. After crawling around under it I found that the rear U joint is bad and needs replaced. My question is should i replace the U joints or go ahead and replace the entire shaft? Also with it not being a solid shaft and having the boot in the middle of it, is there more servicable parts to this driveshaft than just the U joints?

I think it would be more cost effective to just replace the U-joint. A whole shaft would run quite a bit more.

As for the the rest of the shaft, as long as the boot looks good and there are not cracks in it, everything should be good to go!

Good luck,

Tim

I agree, u-joints are cheap and can wear out. Shafts are expensive and generally don't require any maintenance. Just make sure you "index" everything before removal of any components.
