Shock help

I'm trying to get shocks for my truck but am not getting much help from parts stores. Truck has ~6" lift, so I need longer shocks. I got measurements but apparently the parts stores here can't do anything with them. How do I get the right shocks without having to look through every one u till I find the right length? I want to get them today so I would rather avoid ordering any online. Any thoughts?

Sorry, but your chances of finding shocks that long at the parts store are slim to none. I got lucky last week and oreillys had a set for the front w/2" lift in stock by chance. Everything else will be ordered im afraid.

Lift kits typically don't come with shocks so I'd contact the likes of BDS, Skyjacker, and Superlift to determine what they spec.

Alternatively, if you know the measurements at max droop and max compression, shock manufacturers will usually have a reference book (I know Rancho's is online) which lists the specifications. You'll also have to specify the upper and lower mount style (eyes, bayonet, or combinations thereof).

My lift consists of Super Duty springs front and rear, so I don't have anything to go by other than measurements. If the ones I linked are good I'll just get them, but being for racing I'm worried they may not be good for my truck. I do plan on hauling wood, pulling trailers and whatever else comes along so I don't want the rear to be too soft.

I would for sure get ahold of rancho, they will have what you need and a very high quality shock at a reasonable price IMO.

I just went through the same thing. Like HIO said, you need to know the compressed and extended length. If you fully compress a shock it will ruin it, tou absolutly don't want them too long. They can be fully extended though. If you are lucky enough to find them on your own, kudos. I caled superlift and they guy was extremely helpful. Know the mount to mount extended and compressed lengths and the style of mount at each end.

Brian any way to get a fork lift, skid steer or tractor and compress the suspension to the bump stops and then turn around and pick it up and let the suspension go to full droop?

About the only way unless you have a frame table you can chain it to and do it that way.
