Shocks from RockAuto

I went searching for a basic set of shocks this morning. The Monroes seemed to be a brand everyone carried. The cheapest I found was $76 bucks from shock warehouse but the shipping was $14, not bad but I wanted to see if I could do any better.
I have not dealt with RockAuto before. When I plugged in the part numbers I was shocked! Their prices blew the doors off of everyone else. $58 bucks for 4 shocks shipped.

That happens a lot. Often, they'll have a selection with various prices.

I know nothing about shocks, but all the parts I've gotten from Rockauto.com have been quality parts.

There is no need for that here. Take it to some other forum please.

no pun intended right? Haha.

I have to agree though on thier selection and prices. I recently replaced the radiator on my wifes car and even after shipping it was half the price of anywhere else i looked.

The only down side I've found shopping at Rock Auto is if you're buying multiple parts, too often they have to come from multiple warehouses or distributors so they charge separate shipping, which often times brings the price up to where you can buy them locally just as cheap.

I was shopping for brake parts and the rotors, pads, calipers and master cylinder all came from different places. Heavy parts meant big shipping costs and in the end it didn't pencil.

Just don't go to O'Rileys auto parts and ask for those shocks. I was told 300 just for the front shocks. Locally new I think I paid 98 bucks with tax for the 4 Monroe shocks on my Truck.

If you know what you want, online ordering is great. Brake parts and other stuff is sometimes best ordered locally, where ya can bring in the old part and make sure its replacement will fit or whatever. Returns if necessary, are way less hassle locally too.

Even shopping locally can be cheaper online. Recently, I needed to replace brake pads on my roomie's ride. It was less expensive to order on line from O'Reilly's than to walk into the store. Oh, and shipping was free. Go figure.

Advanced Auto sends me 20% off coupons that I use to purchase from them online but select the option "pick up at store". Can't beat that!
Like stated above it's better to know the part number you are needing. I have frequently been looking for a part on line using " type of vehicle" and come up without a part, only to plug in the manufacturer and part number and find it.

I like to and encourage supporting our small town auto parts. Some times the prices are very competitive with "internet" pricing. Every once in a while a deal like this pops up and ya wonder how they do it.

I too like to buy or order locally if I can. I was standing in line the other day at Fed Ex waiting to ship a package out. There was a guy in front of me shipping out a box of parts back to Rock Auto. He was complaining to the Fed Ex clerk that he got shipped the wrong parts. She says we see a lot of packages come through going to Rock Auto and other auto parts suppliers. The question in my mind was did he order the right stuff in the first place? That's why I like the counter guys and gals at the local places.

I also like to buy local. I like to touch the part and know that I can return it now. That being said when people buy from me I ship it to them but it is more of a service to them plus mine are American made where the local stores carry off shore. I just checked rockauto for kingpins but will try to buy local if possible..
