I have a 96 f250 powerstroke with an e4od auto. Truck has 308,000 very tough miles on it. Motor runs strong, but lately the Trans has been developing issues. It seems to go into limp mode, hard shifting with o/d light flashing, every time it hits a dirt road, which lately has been quite often as I drive it to work in the logging woods. That being said, I know the first response will be did you pull the codes? I tried to with an off the shelf obd2 scanner, which the truck has a plug in for under the dash. The scanner would not link up, however, and upon further inspection I found a tag under the hood stating it was an obd1 system. Now I'm lost. I don't know much about troubleshooting and diagnostic systems other than what Google could tell me and there seems to be some dispute about the model year and ca regulations? Help!!!!! Any info on how to retrieve the codes would be much appreciated
