The BII is a truck based vehicle (from the '80's no less) and will, therefore, drive like a truck. It is difficult from my computer seat to tell if what you are describing as rough is rougher than normal. If it's rougher than you want, there are a few things that can soften the ride, but, remember, it will never drive like a Town Car or a Mustang.
1) Do you have "P" or "LT" rated tires? LT rated tires have more rubber in the sidewalls and the tread, making them stiffer. However, they are also less prone to puncture and can carry more weight.
2) Some shocks are stiffer than others. Can you tell which brand/model shocks you have?
i honestly wouldnt know what to expect because this is the first 4x4 that i have ever owned.as far as i know it still has the factory shocks.but this does not bother me near as bad as the sunroof problem.you know, driving down the road and a small shower catches you and the front metal headliner holder starts pouring water.this happened to me this past weekend while taking the wife and kids fishing.
yeah, mine leaks too.... the previous owner put tape over the edges... it's black tape, so I'm assuming it's electrical tape, and a bunch of it.... because of that it doesn't leak anymore... I'd try putting layers of it on to see if it'll work.
I need to figure out a fix to seal out the water, though...
A 4x4 will ride considerably rougher than a car, especially an older one, but I would not describe it as harsh, the thing to look for if your shocks are bad is to see how many times the truck bounces when you push down hard on a corner of the bumper. It shouldn't bounce more than twice. If it bounces more than that your shocks are probably shot. When I replaced the 84 that I had shcoks, it made all the difference in the world.
Does it sit higher in the front than the rear? Because mine did and I put an add-a-leaf kit in it for about $40.00 and it helped alot. Coupled with new shocks my ride is 100% better. The only thing I intend to do is lift it 2 inches with a body lift to get the body a little further away from the frame and add a little more rubber to absorb vibration and get my tail gate off the plastic pannel between the bumper and the body. If you have any more questions just ask.
i got lucky and found a great deal on a set of kumho venture at tires.this helped a bunch.now i can use this B2 to get to my favorite fishing hole.it sure beats the heck out of walking.
