I am making oil in my 97 truck. This and the fact I have a black fuel filter leads me to believe I have injector issues. Would it be worth it to send all 8 out and convert them to stage 1s? I'm about to be gone for 6 weeks so I can afford to have her down for a while.
Also, where should they be sent to be rebuilt? There has been a guy that several people have used I just can't remember who he is.
Cost involved? I think these are originals with 115k-ish on them
Is there any drawback to leaving my truck without injectors for 6 weeks? I am going on a trip and wouldn't be able to get them back in until I return... Basically, should I send them before or after I go on the trip?

My engine is sitting on the shop floor with out its injectors, I put the valve covers back on and tighten a few of the valve cover bolts finger tight to help keep out debris.
I just got off the phone with Jim and he recommended to stuff an oil soaked rag in the injector holes to prevent any kind of corrosion, as well as putting the valve covers back on hand tight (good way to make sure and not lose any of the bolts too!)
So what would be the drawback of going to stage 1s vs stock? I currently have a 6637 filter, and plan on transmission cooler, gauges, full exhaust with bellowed downpipe, and later a chip.
I know stage 2s can cause high EGTs... will stage 1s do the same but not as bad?
Will I have to add an intercooler to the list if I choose to upgrade the injectors?
Ok so I just pulled my injectors to send to Jim at rosewood. While I was pulling everything apart, I noticed some things that worried me. First, there was oil in the intake just in front of the turbo.. See picture.
Also, one of the injectors was significantly discolored... Was this what was causing my blue smoke?
Oil in front of the turbo is probably from the crank case vent. I don't think it is a big deal. The discolored injector may have been the source of some of your issues. Jim will take care of it. I would also closely examine the injector cups while the injectors are out
