Problem with little cap over IAC
Today when i was givin´a look over my Sport 4.0 ´99 engine i saw that IAC black cap has a hole in the center!!
What could happened there??
I took tha cap sealed the hole with silicone

Problem with little cap over IAC
between the two is a felt filter element. Air flow keeps the valve cleaner and helps balance pressure on the valve. Is the filter pellet still there? At the very least, put a cotton ball there, hold it in place with a piece of cloth and a tie-wrap. There is a metal nipple under the plastic that you can connect a short rubber tube to and a cheap plastic inline gas filter to for something that looks better. Otherwise get a new valve for $70. Just keep dirt and water out.

No, there was a complete hole in the center. i could exven see trought!!
About metal nipple and gas filter, In which way do i have to install it, allowing air coming in IAC or going out ???
If IAC valve is now breathing freely, the IAC must have not pressure on the valve. Is that the reason that my actual MPG is about 12-13??

Problem with little cap over IAC
That air is not measured by the MAF so it should be leaner. The computer would correct for this but I'm sure there are some speed ranges where it throws the calibration off. Cut some thick cloth and stick it in there. There is probably some plastic cap that you can find that you could glue on the outside edge with silicone. I think the top edge has some bumps that would keep the a cap from closeing off the air. A rubber tube cap might work with a hole drilled in the end.
