Hey first post here looking for a little help on a head scratcher. I have 1970 f100 and I'm putting one of those Lokar shifters in. I was looking at some of the other builds and saw that people had these nice removable trans covers. I am not one of those people. My question is where can I get one or rather should I get one? Scouring the web I found that nobody makes replacement trans humps only the pans. Is this a fab only deal or am I missing something.
I believe the cover that you refer to was only used with the floor shift trannys, 3spd and auto would not have one and AFAIK is not an easy fix. I don't think you need one.
I know, at least in the 4WD Dentside trucks, if the truck had and an automatic, there was only one slot cut in the high hump transmission cover for the lever to stick up through to select 4Hi or 4Lo.
Even if the high hump cover from a 4WD with a standard had two holes in it, it would be easy enough to pop rivet or sheet metal screw some plates over the holes --if you have an automatic in a 2WD.
I found a removable cover on Ebay. I filled the shift lever hole and made a new one for my Lokar. The floor is marked where to cut for the removable cover. It sure makes installing the shifter easier! And it gives you more tunnel room which is why I did it.
I got a hump cover with no holes from a auto tranny truck. I recut new holes in it for the nv4500 5spd stick & 4wd shift stick. This was much easier then patching up the stock cover sheet metal.
I paid $11 bucks at PnP about 6+ yrs ago. I did not notice what yrs of truck it was as, I only looks in them for a virgin unmolested hump cover.
I've seen them before and knew they were out their.
I found it odd that some trucks did not have the removable hump.
