I have a 2000 Ranger 3.0L FFV with automatic. My ABS light came on a couple of days ago when I got off the freeway and it acted like the ABS was trying to operate as I braked. It cleared up on the way home, but messed up again halfway to work the next day. The second time the light came on, the speedometer quit working sporatically and the OD light flashed a few times. I contemplated having to buy a code scanner soon
After I got to work and got my morning stuff done, I got on FTE and did a search on ABS and speedometer. I saw that many people had this problem already and the speed sensor on the differential liked to fail often. So I stopped and picked up one on the way home from work. It only took 15 minutes to get it on the ramps and swap it out.
Everything is back to normal and the truck runs great again and I only had to spend $18! So I really owe you guys a world of thanks
Hmmm....you are right, this seems to be VERY common. And I'm noticing a pattern...it seems like lots of the trucks having this problem are 2000 models with the 3.0L engine. Hmmm.....

Yeah, the parts guy knew exactly what I was talking about and said he sells a lot of them. I asked how many he had on hand and he said they had 60 in the bin
Good to know...thanks for following through with the information on the ABS speed sensor....like WXboy says, that problem seem to be popping up more and more lately.
My 2000 2.5L dropped one off at like 37K... Good thing they're cheap and easy to replace. Mine went so bad as to affect the speedo (it wouldn't read below 20), but as I understand it, most of you guys still have the cable speedos, but still have the rear wheel sensor for the ABS....
