I own a 99 f250 super duty with a v10. Last night when I was leaving the boat launch my abs light came on and then my speedometer stopped working. I pulled off into a gas station and shut down my car, started it back up and the light went off. After about 5 minutes it came back on and the rest of my way home the speedometer would work on and off. Once I got near 55 or 60mph it would flicker down to 0 on the speedo then come back up and it did that until I got home. No idea what causes this. Would it be a sensor or something or is it actually related to my ABS? Any help would be appreciated..thanks
Did you dip your rear axle when you launched or retrieved your boat? Your symptoms point toward the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) on top of the rear differential. First thing would be to check the connections for water and/or corrosion. Clean and replace as necessary.
You may also want to check the quality of your rear differential fluid. You don't want water in there.

The symptoms include a programmed shutdown of the instrument panel.
That is a system voltage / battery / alternator problem.
ABS light comes on with low voltage.
Therefore, the first suspect is not the ABS sensor or wiring /corrosion at the pumpkin.
Everything else one in instrument panel works like the gas, engine temp and oil pressure all seem fine. The RPMs go up higher when the speedo flickers around

Then it is the speed sensor.
But just for arguments sake --- charge and load test batteries and alternator output.
hey thanks to everyone for your help. Cleaned all my cables going to the battery and near the speed sensor and light was still on. Got a new speed sensor, put it on and everything is back to normal.. Thanks again!
I a heavy rain storm my ABS light came on, my speedo stopped working, my cruse stopped working, my odometer stopped working and my comp. miles per gallon indicator stopped working.
I changed out my rear speed sensor and now my speedo works but it jerks (not like before) a lot but seems to give thye correct speed. The ABS light is still on. It does not blink, it just stays on.
