Abnormal PowerMax noise

Did you inspect up pipes while the turbo was out?

That's my next guess aside from the turbo having some strange quirk about it.

You can still inspect it from under the truck with a flash light

I agree, the only thing left to check now would be the up-pipes and intercooler. The noise is coming from the turbo area so the uppipes seem more likely. Of course, something could still be going on with the turbo but it seemed sound when taken apart.

Not 100% the same but kind of similar. I only hear it under load and it definitely responds to throttle input coming in at about 1800 rpm.

I thought I could kind of hear something in your video but it was hard to make out.

Maybe, does it sound like this:

Not my truck but the guy found out his thrust bearing was bad.

"The cause of failure is shutting off the vehicle without letting the turbo cool down. When the engine is shut off, the oil feed to the turbo stops, and the oil that is stagnant in the turbo heats up and oxidizes. I pulled it apart and there was black coked up oil all over the journal bearings, thrust bearing, and journals that feed the bearings."

Again similar but not 100%. Certainly could be a possibility although I never shut down without letting the turbo idle for a couple of minutes.

Even though I do not know for sure, I think I will replace the up-pipe. My inclination is to order from RiffRaff. What do you guys think of the MBRP up-pipe, any good?

Finally back from traveling and got started replacing the up-pipe. Got all the bolts and the clamp removed and the up-pipe is now free to be removed (never really appreciated my pneumatic ratchet until today - couldn't have gotten to those bolts out without it). Well. It isn't easy to get the up-pipe out and I assume I need to remove the turbo in order to get it out.

Does anyone have any good tricks getting the pipe out and the new one back in place?

Have to remove the turbo to remove the y-pipe.

Helps to remove the FICM also, but not absolutely necessary.
