Looking for a few ideas.
foam in radiator popped valve covers and found this
hope I got to it in time
Any idea as to how to clean the motor friend recommended using diesel instead of oil and fire it up for a second or two then drain
Any other things I might can fix/update/check?
Perhaps oil pump?
not sitting on a pile of cash
Should I drop the pan and clean it out?
got new water pump $35
new timing chain $35
and a full gasket set $75
I don't use diesel, I put a can or two of transmission fluid in with some cheap motor oil. The addatives in the trans oil clean things up pretty good.........or just change the oil a couple times ... sure looks like short trips, not warmed up, extra humidity.
ill have heads off soon, I work second shift.
It had foam in radiator cap so kinda sure it is a head gasket or cracked head
was losing water and not a visible sign of a leak wondering about my exhaust if it got loaded up with water/oil too.
I guess I better flush the heater core and radiator out too.
LOTS of short hops to school and back yep
I did get her to wait for a bit for idle to drop before leaving the house.
It is Floridia 90deg in day 77deg at night rains every day around 4 pm so I imagine it gets to operating temp fast...
I might could drill a hole in T-stat or remove it?
I don't ever use the heater maybe 3 days a year and can let it sit until its warm anyway if that bad.
thanks for replys
No, you need the T-stat. The idea is to get the engine to NOT as quickly as possible. Always use a thermostat. Well, maybe not with a Flathead, but that's probably BS there too. Weak or missing T-stat will cause sludge bigtime. I'm guessing that idling alone contributes to sludge too. Engine warms up quicker under load.
at start up oil pressure > water pressure, so oil goes into the radiator
then at temp the water pressure > oil pressure, so water goes into the oil
Too much to do won't get the heads off until Wednesday
T-chain has slack... can turn the crank and feal it and see it in the rockers
If this mess is in the oil pan I might just drop it too.
gave up on trying to get the fan off of the Water pump
old pump looks fine and shaft has no play in any direction
upon further inspection there is no slack in T-chain don't have gaskets to change it anyway.
Only issue I have seen is a blown intake gasket at driverside water port might of gotten a bit overtightened intake?
might try a bit of J-B weld to help intake...
Head gaskets look new just did them about 18 months ago.
I do have one cylinder a bit scratched and a clean piston thinking this is where the water was going?
thinking I might have cracked block
Simple compression test might of avoided a lot of work but I have time to tinker
