06 Exlporer defrost stuck on
Howdy y'all! I'm trying to help my buddy fix a problem. The defrost is stuck on. It is an 06 explorer. The actuators seem to be working but the air will not come out of the front vents. The defrost and floor only. And places to to look. Anything easy to make sure of first?
Thanks!
Thanks!

That is somewhat abnormal. The blend door which controls temp is motor operated and is known to bottom out at the end and sometimes breaks the hinge.... There are 203 different doors that direct the air to the defrost, vent , floor, combo... those are vacuum operated and seldom break the arm / cam , but it is possible. Normal access is complete disassembly or cut hole in duct, fix problem, the screw or tape a cover over the hole.

drawing at bottom of this page gives you an idea of how the system works-- vacuum doors.

Thanks for the replies Steve(ill)....(I hope you are still not "ill"). The temp door/flap is still working ok (knock on wood). The problem is where the door/flap diverts the air from the front vent to the defrost. Right now she is using a stick to operate the front vents. She turns the fan on and pushes the door/flap open with the stick. As long as the fan is blowing it will keep the door/flap open and the air will blow out the front vents. If she chooses to have defrost she simply turns off the fan (door/flap will close with the help of gravity) then turn the fan back on or up. The vac. control motor works well and still moves the rod. However, at the end of the rod there is a hole (that is still intact) connects to the door/flap by a small plastic nub. The nub and half of what that is connected to is broken "SNAP". I may try to go to a junkyard and try to cut one from an old one and try to attach it back on the one I'm trying to fix. I do not want to take it all apart. It is not my vehicle and I don't want to break a bunch of stuff trying to fix it the right way and it is a daily driver and I don't want to be under the time gun to complete it.
Thanks for ALL the help Steve...the diagram helped a lot!...get well soon!
