I'm not sure there's any way to soften a F550 - that's a lot of meat on the road. One can only ask around that forum to learn what's what. I know bfife installed a trucker seat with the pneumatic suspension to deal with the ride.
I bought Ford springs - they even have the pretty blue sticker on them.
As for the ride with the gapped springs, it wasn't harsh so much as it was bouncy with lousy control - even with good shocks. Cement seams on the highway made the nose look like I was skiing over moguls. The springs were the only change to the nose when they were installed, so there was no mistaking the springs absolutely helped.
Is it a Cadillac ride? No... but it's not Chitty Chitty Bang Bang anymore.
I've often thought of installing the air ride seat set up from the F-650/750 series... but then again, I'd rather not have the complexity of an air system, preferring instead a self contained suspension seat similar to what Mitsibushi installed in their Montero in the early 80's.
