Tasca has the kit you need, I installed them last winter. Easy to do and cured the squeak.

You don't have to do anything with the ubolts to install the spacers. A pry bar between the leafs opens it up enough to slide them in.

I never re-use u-bolts (or any other torque-to-yield bolt for that matter).

I'm about 99% sure all leaf sprung superdutys with the 7.3 will use the same kit.... It's a pretty universal thing. Almost like tires.

ALLDATA mentions that new ubolts and nuts and needed for front. Doesn't say the same thing about the rear. I wonder why.

Something changed in 2002. According to TASCA the 2002 gets part # #2C3Z-5586-AA. Joy at TASCA also said she thinks the kit is interchangeable for front and rear springs as well as left and right....BUT its only the disc shaped spacer. I know I have those disc shaped spacers between my leaf springs.

FYI, my clunking was the Front Sway Bar Endlink bushings which were totally FUBARed.

I posted on my experience replacing: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...d-links-3.html

Brand New Rear Leaf Spring Insulator Insert Ford Lincoln 2C3Z 5586 AA | eBay

The kit you guys refer to is Brand New Rear Leaf Spring Insert F Series SD Excursion Expedition Navigator | eBay

What changed?

What changed is the design of the front leaf springs.

Here are a couple of photos of my 2000 front leaf spring forward eyelet and aft shackle, which you can compare to your 2002 front leaf springs in order to see and understand the difference.

The second kit in your post above will not work with your 2002 truck. And contrary to what Tasca suggests, the second kit will not work with any rear leaf springs on any Ford truck or SUV. It is an isolator kit for the front leaf springs only, and as far as I know, only on certain, but not all, 1999-2001 Super Duty and Excursion vehicles.

I'm not sure why Tasca suggests that this kit is also for Expeditions and Navigators, neither of which have leaf springs in the front or the rear.

I'm not sold that fixing the spacers will solve all the problems. It may help with the noise, but I learned the ride in the nose is terrible with these springs in the front. I took another path by going with X-codes and I really like the results - the difference is dramatic. I've been told the V-codes would be softer.

I can't speak to the rear springs - just my experience with separated leaf springs.

Tugles,

Long time no speak. Nice to hear from you. Why did you R&R your front leafers?

Noise is terrible with which springs? Me confused. The ones in the pic?

My metal clunking over all larger road irregularities was my destroyed front sway bar endlinks. Whata difference new links provide. WOW.

I had the front springs with the space between the upper and lower springs. I have looked everywhere for what they call this configuration and why it is used, but it's like nobody wants to 'fess up that it was installed on our trucks. The separated springs were used on our Superduty noses for 1999 and 2000, and that's it. I find no reference to that design being used before or since, nor on any other vehicle. I found Parabolic springs, but that's a different creature.

Not happy with the Shock and Awe campaign in the front vs. what should have been a much stiffer ride in the rear, I decided to get a tougher front spring that had good reviews. The instant I hit the curb, I notice a huge difference in how the nose felt. I went on safari for cement seams in the road (my bane), and everything from slow roll across the curb to seam-challenging at 75 MPH was a world of difference from those funky '99 and '00 springs. My wife even let go of the grab handle and reached for a cup-O-jo.

Rich, when I read about how your separated springs on your F-250 were uncomfortable, it makes me seriously question what I've been enduring with the separated front springs on my F-550. With Snow Plow Prep. Probably the very stiffest springs in the stable during that era. It never occurred to me to change them to the newer design.
