Lariat remote key question
New member and maybe the answer is already here but I couldn't find it.
I have a new Lariat super crew F150 and it has the remote keyless entry and starter fobs. The owner's manual says that if I lose them or if they are stolen I should have the truck towed to the nearest Ford dealer.
Somebody at Ford needs to rethink this and come up with a better procedure. Trucks go to the boondocks and mine sometimes will be 300 miles south of the border in Baja California. If I lose the key I need a way to get into the truck and start it.....towing is not an option!
Does anyone here have an idea about how to manage this....like, for instance, can I hot wire the truck?
Thanks,

You could put the spare key in the center console and unlock it with the keypad. Although it would never truly be locked since it would be like you have the key in your pocket and you can just unlock it with the handle sensor.
Wear it like a necklace

Yeah. It doesn't really sound like there is an easy way to get into it and start it. I think they do that so people can't simply break a window, hotwire it and drive it away.
My 1991 Ford explorer came with a credit card with a key punched out of it that worked in emergencies. It probably wouldn't make any sense to carry the second key fob in your wallet as its way too big.
Seems like it's definitely worth having an extra key or two made. Does anyone know how much they charge for extra keys?
I have found several other errors/omissions in the owners' manual. The instruction to get towed if you lose your key is completely unacceptable and I think Ford needs its butt kicked over this.
BTW: The dealer agrees.
