Drained and flushed real good.
Went to Ford dealer. Parts man asked the mechanic " just plain green and water, nothing special"
Went to second dealership. Bought motorcraft, premium antifreeze and additive. Asked twice if this is for the 7.3. He said yes that's what I was told.
Three days later water pump starts leaking. Drain it all change pump. Buddy called, who also has a 7.3. He said I got a great mechanic. He says only use the red antifreeze in a 7.3???????
I finished the water pump yesterday afternoon. Disconnected the heater hose coming out of the water pump and ran it until it was clear. Flushing all the antifreeze out. Drove it today, with those water, no leaks, all is good. I tried to drain the block this evening. There are two plugs in the area of the oil filter. One accepts a 1/4" drive. I used a 3/8 x 1/4 adapter. It aint budging, adapter started to twist in the plug. The other is an odd size, between a 1/4 and a 3/8. What do you suggest?
Fleet Charge comes in two forms. BOTH are pre-CHARGED with SCA, which is the anti-cavitation additive. One is pre-DILUTED, one is full-strength.
Similar to any other anti-freeze, one form is full-strength, meaning you should mix it aprx. 50/50 (or a little stronger) with DISTILLED water. The other form is already a 50/50 mix, i.e. pre-DILUTED with water. The second form is more convenient, but waay more expensive, because you're effectively buying more water at almost the price of the anti-freeze itself. So it's ultimately cheaper to buy the full strength, and bottled distilled water. Another reason to buy the full-strength is that, even after flushing multiple times and draining the block from both drains, and the radiator, and pulling the lower hose, and the heater core, heater hoses, etc., there's STILL some water left in the system. So if you use the 50/50 pre-diluted, your final solution will be somewhat weak. If you put in four full gallons of full-strength after flushing/draining, then top up with distilled water, you know you have a good 50/50 solution.
The kicker is, you have to check the label carefully. The label pictured above is long obsolete. The new labels for the two formulas (full strength and 50/50 premix) are almost identical.
