I got a great deal on a 2004 5.4EX lifted with 35's. I put a hypertech programmer, K&N filter, custom Y pipe and magna flow and at 5000 ft it still runs well with 5 Adults and 3k lb of gear and boat on a trailer.
Does it ever get 14 mpg? NO! But it sure is fun to drive, oh and by the way our brand new crew cab diesel doesn't either and it's not fun to drive.
I have a 2004 Ford Excursion. Bought it back in 2018 or so. Today it has 147k. 4x4.Automatic. 3 row seating. front and rear air. Pure stock other than the chip I put it in from Chip Your Car. Runs great. No issues, no problems, maintenance was always done by an ASE shop.
Looking to sell it since I am moving from a Travel Trailer to a 5th wheel and need a pick up.
Pass it around if you know anyone that wants a great ride. $10,000.00 This is a really fair price for a rare find. I'm in Texas near Dallas/Fort Worth.
First owner was Ford. They used it for 9 months in NYC as a shuttle for Executives. Second owner lived in Clayton or Portales NM and had it for 14 or so years till he died. I ran into his son accidently and conversation led to the EX and I bought it.
Has a 4.100 front/rear differential. 42 gallon tank.

Thanks
Gramps (I'm 73 and won't be RV-ing for too many more years. I already had to give up flying, scuba, golf, deer hunting)
Bout all I have left is RV-ing around the USA, vineyards, hiking with my dog, camping in Carson National Forest and my kids and grand kids.
I lost my '57 Piper TriPacer N1797P in 1977 due to limited finances and the wife wanted a house
I had put in a 160 hp Lyc with 0 time on it.
also McAllen Gullwing Tips.
375 ft landings and 600 ft takes offs, it was pure pleasure for me, but alas, a happy wife is a happy life?? I wish I had kept it and suffered the consequences.

bought my '04 EX w/ 5.4 cause I was tired of straping luggage on roof and coolers on a hitch hauler on my explorer taking the family on vacation. Bought it in '08 w/ 33k miles. I am at 228k now and only things done to it are replaced timing chain tensioners w/ cast iron at 100k, replaced torque converter w/ billet cover at 40k due to shudder. Everything else is factory except wear stuff like brakes (only hawk pads!),shocks and stuff. Only thing that was a pia was replaced fuel pump only to have it die a month later. Didn't have time to fix it and let a local shop have it. $1600 for a whole new module and a new relay spliced since factory one is soldered to the fuse panel under steering wheel. The 4.10 gear is nice and enough power. I've towed with it and never felt like it wasn't gonna get it. Maybe not fastest but I've been served well. Amazingly it's sweet cruising speed on i-10 is about 70mph and has gotten 17 mpg. Around town is like 11-12. Most reliable vehicle I have owned. Worst nightmare was changing plugs the first time. Number 4 is always a pia. Wait till you have part of the coil boot sieze in the hole! Finally took cutting slots in end of socket to make teeth to chew the rubber down to get the plug out.
Mines a 2000 with the 5.4, bought it with 135k in May, swapped the 3.73's to 4.88's and 35" Toyo AT3's she does what she needs to do, avg 14 on our trip to AZ/TX/KS/MO and back, seemed I pushed a headwind there and back, swapped the nasty flowmaster 10 the po had put on with an 18" glasspack. We named her Dory, other than a little rattle on start up, she does great, may see about getting her in and see what lifter is lazy and clatters when she starts sometime soon.
Just bought an 02 2wd w/V10 for my BIL in TX, yes, those 2 extra holes are noticeable going up the mtns...
