Hey guys, lookin for some knowledge...I need to replace the front crossmember of my style side. I found a good used one from Idaho on eBay that I purchased awhile back... Can anyone tell me how these were attached from the factory??
Did you have a lot of corrosion on the base of the radiator support? If so, what was your repair?
Yeah it's pretty rough and still is...my goal is just to get it one the road and work all the bugs out...my plan is to tear the body down next winter and restore it
Pulled the speedo and parking brake cable from my parts truck today...after gettin them cleaned up, I got them out on...just have to put a couple clamps on to attach it to the 79 cables...my goal is to get the bed on this week...I'm like a little kid waitin on Christmas mornin!
Worked on the bed crossmember yesterday...it fell apart when I got the few spot welds that were still holding it loose with the air chisel...good ol salty WV roads
I am very fortunate to have brothers that will help a guy out no matter what the task...the guys from my shift are coming over in the morning when we leave the firehouse to set the bed back on the beast ( I didn't mention how heavy it is! Haha!) It'll be the first time in roughly 7 years that the bed has been on her...as much time as I've spent workin on her lately, the wife might just make me sleep in it!!! Pictures to come ASAP!!
Lookin Good Kujo!
The Fire service Brotherhood is strong! Count your self lucky to have IMHO the best career possible!
Thanks Teddy
It is a wonderful and rewarding profession, like my old man always says(also a professional fireman) "It sure beats workin for a livin" Haha
I have a 460 I'd like to stuff into my 57 F250. How did you get yours under the hood without cutting the firewall? can you take some pics under the hood, engine mounts and radiator area?
Never tried to put that much motor in before and it doesn't look like there will be enough room without a mod to the radiator.

Just a Noob....trying to get some learning...
I know LMC makes a crossmember to swap in the FE blocks, that may help you..my truck already had the MEL swapped in before I bought it...it's got some hefty homemade plates welded in to hold it up...I did have to switch to electric fans due to clearance...but that wasn't an issue until I swapped in a newer radiator...with the electric fans, there's tons of room that you could move the engine forward if you need it to clear the firewall...one issue you might have is clearance with the steering box, again it all depends on how you build your mounts...I will get you some pics asap, look for them Monday
