I'm getting new guides seals and getting valves ground. Some had a 1/2 inch of play. After that gasket set. I'm doing a spectre cold air intake so I'm wanting to turn up the pump like 1/6 of a turn. Is that a flat? Any info on that? And no I don't want to "roll coal" I figured with cai and a straight pipe it it would help the power to move some more fuel with the new air flow. Is cutting up the muffler the best way to make a straight pipe? Sorry kinda new to diesels any help would be appreciated!
Yes that is a "flat". I separated my exhaust right at the first bracket from the front of the truck and put a turndown on it. That and a custom intake are the only mods I have so far and I turned up my pump 2 flats, runs clean only a little smoke at full throttle.
In addition I'll say what most everyone else will, get a pyrometer before turning up your fuel so you can monitor your temps.
As far as how much you can turn up the pump, it's basically 'until it smokes'. Once you get smoke, you get slightly /less/ power than turning it down to just before that. And when it's smoking, you get high EGT temps, not good for your valves.
Do we have a dyno of that cam? I am just curious, because it is so glorified over several threads and I have not found an actual dyno of it, although there was a great effort to do it in the thread posted by FordF250xlt. Butt dyno is not acurate and sometimes feels what we want to feel. Just saying.
The dyno showed the torque to come in 200 rpm sooner and also fall off sooner than stock if i remember right. I think its a good low end cam. However if i were going turbo i would run the stage 1 without a doubt, improvement over stock on both sides. Justin has a custom NA cam based of the 302HO cam but i dont know if he is selling it yet or still testing.
YesI know about the new Justin´s cam, waiting for numbers, when meeting my needs I go for it.. I do remember of one dyno comparison of the torque cam and the stage 1, if my memory serves me right. However if I remember corectly the stage one was superior over the rpms the torque cam was not that flat at all, it did have a better torgue a bit down low but droped premature during rpms with a curve not very consistent. Maybe a bad record.
