hi im wyatt im 18, i needed to build a new engine for my street 68 f100 im a novice at engine building i was just needing some imput on this new engine i wanna build, i will note that i will have supervision when it comes to building it, and i read books and watched videos on how to build a 390 engine i have a lot of people tell me so far to buy new edelbrock 390 heads but i would really like to use what i got which is the cast iron intake and the D2 heads, so here is my build sheet that i had came up with
the truck currently is a 68 f100 with
3.25 rear gear ratio
2500 stall
c6 transmission
390 block bored .30
aftermarket distributer, no points.
flat top pistons with valve releifs around 10.1 on calculater with .15 shim head gasket
stock stroke steel crank
D2TEAA heads 72cc with big 2.09/1.66 valves
cast iron 4 barrel intake
700cfm carb
longtube headers
2.5 exhaust
standard oil pump
i have heard of people using stock NA rocker shaft with high lift cams if you shim the rocker shaft up or use shorter pushrods but will get adjustable rockers if required
cam choices recommended by a couple local mechanics
that is what i got so far i understand you have to give up some bottom end power for a lopey idle but i am ok with i would love it to be a head turner but i would still like it to run and pull hard at midrange and still do a little burnout it will not be for strip use just a weekend driver
thanks for your time.
Best bet would be to buy a copy of Desktop Dyno to input your build info and find out how much power it will make. You can make endless changes to find the right combination.

doesn't sound bad, i ran some ported d2 heads with stock valves sizes but aftermarket valves, and springs. I figured they were less than 428cj heads but they worked well, i ran the edelbrock rpm intake, so i had kinda a medium riser heads after porting. Otherwise the rpm is a bit of a mismatch.
