I'm in the process of removing the old, dry rotted, crumbly door window channels in my truck. I bought some new ones this past winter from LMC, but just haven't had the time to even mess with it.
I've finally removed the old channels, but wanted to see if anyone has any tips for installing new ones. I tried to install them, but they just won't slide down the channels on each side of the window. I even used some silicone spray to help lube it, and that did seem to allow it to slide a little better, but I think I'm doing something wrong..
Do not try to slide them in. Get your position correct in the top corners of the window and work your way down by pressing them in. This is how I accomplished this task.
You can slide them in place with the door panels and weather membrane removed. I used a good dish washing detergent. I diluted with water in a small container and applied to the channel side of the rubber. Carefully slide it down past the window [window in down position]. As it becomes harder to press, reach the rubber from underneath and pull as you continue to push from the top. You can grab it with pliers as the bottom goes well below the travel of the window, so if there is any damage to the rubber at the very end, it will not matter. Watch for the curved part of the molded rubber as it fits in the curved corner at the top of the channel.
The first side [front or back of same window] will be easier as the window pane can move slightly. The opposite side will be more difficult since the window pane cannot move as easily. Keep the rubber lubricated and be patient. It will work!
