Looking for a lace on steering wheel cover for my 86 F150. The smallest circumference that I can find is 3 1/4" and my stock wheel is only 2 3/4". Anyone know of a source ?
Mine was a tight fit getting it to slip on the wheel but the sides wrapped around and met perfectly with no overlap. The wheel doesn't feel near as small as it did.
I've got a base model 86 4x4, and the steering wheel is anemic. My brother has an 85 bronco xlt and it has a thicker steering wheel, which feels much better. His could be aftermarket, I'm not sure. If anyone knows how to get a bigger steering wheel or a wrap that can make it a bit thicker I'd appreciate it.
A steering wheel from an 87-91 should fit. However my opinion is it's ugly as can be.
I could see that, but if it's got some more meat I'll switch. A good steering wheel cover will soften the aesthetic difference. The skinny wheel doesn't exactly inspire confidence.I can't precisely describe it, but it feels puny, like it was made for a miata or a go-kart.
If you want a leather wrapped steering wheel, just go find one off of an XL or XLT Lariat. It was optional, leather wrapped or skinny hard steering wheel. Easiest to find one from an XL or XLT lariat. Our Galaxie has the same type of steering wheel the base model wheels came with. I know how they are. Hard, skinny and slippery.
If junk-yard diving, look in Ford vans. The upscale ones had the nicer steering wheels and the mounting is the same as the trucks. I have seen 1978-1986 and possibly later vans with the thicker wheel.
