1977 4x4 transfer case ?

Are the transfer cases on a 1977 F-250 4x4 attached directly to the transmission or are they divored?

Also, did the '77s come with the NP203 or NP205 (or something else altogether)?

Thanks for the help,

Steve

!977 was a mid year change. The early ones are not attached and the later ones are. The later ones could be had with the 203 or 205 but the model numbers on the early ones escapes me right now.

1977 4x4 transfer case ?

Hmm.. As I don't actually have the truck yet I don't know when it was built. Nor can I look at the tag on the t-case.

I suppose I'll just ask the seller for the VIN number and whether or not he/she knows anymore details about it. The ad says "Ford '77 F 250 - 4WD, high boy edt.. Needs motor; 351 modified. $1,800 obo"

Does that seem reasonable? I should add that I am looking at another 1977 F-250 4x2 that has a good running 460 w/ auto in it that I would put into the 4x4 (hence my question about the divorced t-case).

Any thoughts or opinions on this would be more than welcome.

Thanks,
Steve

If it is in fact what afficiandos refer to as a highboy then it would be the earlier version with the divorced t-case. The very last highboy made with the desireble disc brake front end that was only made 1 1/2 years. Also the only one made with the 351m engine. Your 460 would bolt to the 351m bellhousing. It would still have to be a pretty nice truck to be worth $1800 without an engine. Ask the owner if it has a center drive shaft. That should clear it up on whether it is early or late.

any ford truck built between 75 and 79 could be ordered with a 203 or 205, or unless the truck wasnt ordered the factory would randomly throw in a tcase. Remember the 203 is 4wd only.
