Tie Rods - Say whattt
I know jack about tie rods.
But what I do know is the passenger lower-outer tie rod is clunky [Right where it connects near the wheel. Jacked up the truck and moved the tire from right to left and the passenger side lower tie rod made a very obvious clunking noise right where it connects with the upper piece.
My question is, can I just replace the passenger lower arm or do I need to replace the upper [not sure what it's called] that it connects into? While under the truck I found it difficult to figure out exactly how they are joined together and taken apart?
My drivers side is nice and tight, no clunking.
Thanks for the help!

I would at least replace both on that side and it would be best to replace the drag link as well because if that one went bad the others may not be far behind.

there isn't upper or lower tie rods There is Inner and Outter tie rods
the tie rod connects to whats called a steering knuckle you don't need to replace that
as mine go out I replace with MOOG there supper easy to change and Lifetime warrenty
I use a Tape measure to locate it and measure to the Grease Zert centreline and to a setpoint on the linkage somewhere I also measure off brake roter in front and behind as well Ive even went as far as to set up stringlines and give it an Aglinement that way it takes 6-10 times setting the string up and doing it over because as you adjust it puts tension into the steering and it must roll to relieve it what can I say Im hard headed and I don't mind doing it
Marking the position of the Bad tierod only gets new one fairly close and really could be out a lot due to Manufacture diffrences one part to the next
an 1/8" out is a lot a 1/4" is a Mile out when it comes to steering
If I was you I would install the tierod close as possible and save the 300 bucks or so there and then Take it in for an Aglinment it will b e OK to drive for day or two till you can get it in to the shop for aglinment

Does anyone know if there is a Moog kit to replace all wear and tear parts in the steering? I tried to find a schematic for the 2005 F250 6.0 Steering system, but have been unsuccessful. I see a lot of bushing wore out as well as some clunking on the passenger side. I would like to just replace any parts that are normally replaced. 215k miles. Does anyone know of a Moog kit for sale to replace all the usual parts that become compromised in the steering system, inner, outer tie rods, drag link, and whatever else is recommended to replace. Part #s would be appreciated as well.
