Well i bought my idi about a year ago, but when i bought the truck i asked around a few times to find out why my pedal felt so hard. It was almost a task on its own to keep the pedal at a certain point. so i did some looking around n well the only thing i found were a set of after market springs that the previous owner added in well i got rid of those and the pedal felt way better but still felt a lil off compared to other vechiles with a throttle cable ... so i finally decided to spend the $18 or so buck n buy the cable ... took out the old installed the new one ... n WoW... the plastic around the old cable had gotten baked which kinda kinked it a bit. So now with the new cable in place the truck sounds like it idles smoother and also seems less strained at 75-80's mph...
Sorry for the long post but i figured maybe someone else is going through something like this and thinks it might be normal for these older trucks...
well the new cable had some slack in it but i fixed it with a small piece of fuel line split it down the middle and put a clamp on it ...down were the pedal hooks up the cable.... but yeah if u have a feeling its a lil off jus change it out ...

I like to see a picture of what you did aswell.. I have a little play in the pedal too.
the split fishing sinkers work for taking the slack out oo just lift the pedal all the way pu and pot as many on the extra cable the stick out where it hooks to the top of the pedal
i didnt think of the weights but that would work to... and yes i jus ordered my cable from autozone ... my local parts stores didnt have it in stock but it took like a day or so to get to me... but yeah if ur pedal feels a bit to firm i think its worth the few minutes it takes to take off and replace....
When I put a new throttle cabel on mine it had a little play(slightly longer than stock) so I also made a spacer that went between the peddle lever and the tip of the cable. I had to add a little over a 1/4 inch of spacer. My peddle is easier than before but still needs a good leg. Maybe I'll check the springs like you did. Thanks for the tips. Brad
fittin issue i would say no ...but there is still play in the line with the new one so i put a piece of rubber hose and a ziptie n all is good ... ill load some pixs so u can see what im talking bout ... http://s70.photobucket.com/albums/i94/jcortez863/truck%20stuff/?action=view¤t=throttle1.jpg" target="_blank">http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i94/jcortez863/truck%20stuff/throttle1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">
after hearing about the pinch weight idea, i figured i go out and look at the slack in my pedal too.
my pinch weights were too small to use so i found two old small nuts. I cut them on one side with a hacksaw. opened the gap large enough for the throttle cable to slide through. Put them on, then I used a small piece of fuel line to that was big enough to slide over the nuts but tight enough to not slide back off.
the two nuts together were about 1/4" thick, which snugged up my pedal very nice. now when I step on the pedal it immediately engages throttle. this pulled that little bit of play out that i would have to push through before engaging throttle. should have done this yrs ago. the feel of how the truck drives is great, little fix that made a huge improvement.
Thanks for the ideas guys. one of those things i just worked with and dealt with over the years and never thought of a fix for, especially since I could not adjust it on the IP side.
