Yesterday, I was driving my 2002 Excursion (gas, not diesel) on the highway when it overheated. I let the engine cool and filled up the engine coolant (which was low). I drove it home without incident (about 10 miles).
The service engine light (on the lower left screen of the instrument panel) lit up during the overheat and was on during the drive home. I let it sit overnight and cranked it again. The engine coolant level is fine (I added a little more, about 1/2 gallon, engine coolant/water mix to get it to normal level) and there are no other indicators, but the service engine light is still illuminated. Is this a cause for concern, or is it likely just needing time to reset?
