I got this light on LCD screen tonight coming home from work. My truck only has 13,000 miles on it. I read were it says I need to add Motorcraft Specialty Orange Engine Coolant Revitalizer to the coolant reservoir. I have been to 3 part stores and they have no idea on what that is and don't have it in stock. So if I drive my truck to Ford dealership about 20 miles with this light on will it hurt my motor. Why is this light on when I thought the coolant was suppose to last 100,000 miles.
It is a maintenance nag. Your dealer can check your coolant with test strips. You will be the first if you actually need any revitalizer so soon. Turn the nag off and quit worrying. It is an automatic reminder not a Check Engine Light. BTDT
I experienced the same warning a couple weeks ago with about 12,500 miles on my truck. I stopped at my Ford dealership the same day and spoke with a service manager. After a bit of head scratching and several service advisors reviewing my question; "why is this warning coming up with such low mileage", I was told not to worry (easy for them to say). They cleared the message and sent me on my way without getting a clear answer. They did mention about the test strips but none were available in the parts department.
If I remember correctly the message comes up at 15000 miles OR 600 hours, whichever comes first. So if idled alot, you probably hit the hour limit, not the mileage limit to trigger the message.
I got the same message around 13,500 miles....Check coolant additive, I just hit OK every time it comes on and it goes away....I'm going in for an oil change at 15,000, they can check it then.
You can turn the nag off using your info center menu's
and if your servicing dealer is like mine, you will have to reset the prompt yourself anyway for that and the oil change as well. I find it hard to believe that after performing an oil change and seeing the prompt when they pull the truck out of the shop that they don't reset it then.
