ok, I got everything installed my 2 10 inch subs, my amplifier and my system. Everything works fine except the subs. I have the speaker wires connected correctly, the power wire connected to my positive terminal with a fuze close but not too close to the battery, the remote wire connected securely, a ground wire connected to the metal portion of my truck underneath the carpet, and my rca wires are connected to my system. I have no Idea what could be wrong, the subs have never been used and neither has the amp.
Here are a few things I can think of off the top of my head.
You could get a test light or multi-meter, turn the stereo on and see if the remote wire to the amp gets hot. It may not be getting hot and turning on the amp.
You may have the front/rear balance on the radio all the way to the front so the rear is cut off, if you have the subs connected to the rear channel.
Your deck may have on/off controls for the outputs, the rca output that goes to the amp may be off.
Check the rca on your deck that the amp is plugged into, you may have it pluged into an input or some other connection.
Check the power to the amp, maybe the power wire isn't getting power there.
Maybe your amp has a fuse on it that is blown or has not been installed. If your amp has lights on it see if they are lighting up. Some manufactures use different color lights to give you a sign of what is wrong.
Check the switches and dials on the amp to see that they are in the correct positions, some amps have internal switches. Maybe the gains are all the way off.
Ok, two things, The remote wire isn't getting hot. I checked the manual but have no idea how to turn it on. its a JVC system, any ideas? Also, I think somethings wrong with the power. I connected it to my positive lead on my battery by connecting it to the top metal portion but I don't think anythings goin to the power wire, is there a specific way to hook it up?
Well, if the remote wire isn't hot, the amp probably won't turn on. Does your amp have a switch to disable/ignore the remote lead? As a down-and-dirty, temporary fix for this, you can connect the remote terminal to the power terminal on the amp.
Why do you think your power wire isn't conducting? Did you test it with a multimeter? In answer to your question, no, if you're going straight from the battery, there's no "specific" way to hook it up, but of course you need to make sure you've got a solid contact and all that stuff.
Test your wire coming from the battery, jumper the remote terminal and let us know what happens.
Just check the remote wire you used on the stereo. A lot of those are confusing, you may have used the remote Ant. wire or something. Some of those power Ant. trigger wires will not power on the amps. Like mentioned above you can just put a jumper wire from the power connection on the amp over to the remote turn on to make sure it works. Your amp will be on all the time so don't just leave it or it could drain your battery.
ok, I had a good power connection, but the remote amp needed to be connected to the power and the system for the amp and subs to turn on. is this odd? will it wreck my system? the other this is the power is full then is slowly dying away every now and then? does this mean my battery is low or lose connection? I think my connections are fairly strong, but I'll probably check when it stops raining.
Thanks to all who have helped me,
Chris
sorry I forgot to add, the amp turns off when i turn the car off. I know it seems like it should stay on, but it turns off. Oh well, i'll just keep an eye on it to make sure this is the case 100% of the time
the amp is supposed to turn off when the car turns off otherwise it would drain your battery down everynight
the power goes away occasionally because your alternator isn't charging you system fast enough to keep up with the amp and all the other electronics, watch your headlights at night, they'll dim with the bass. you can either get a new but probably a bigger alternator and or capacitor to fix that. go alternator if you have the cash the capacitor is like a putting a bandaid on the stump where your leg used to be.

Just to make sure we're all on the same page, if chris has the remote wire installed correctly, the amp should be turning on and off with the HU.

Not sure I agree with this. His battery should be able to discharge a lot faster than his alternator can generate. Besides, unless he's *really* pounding on this system, he's not going to be drawing enough current to dim the lights as long as the engine's on (which it should be if he's running electrical stuff).
Chris: what is the current status of your trouble-shooting? I gather that you've got your amp on...is it producing sound? Is your amp turning on and off with the HU?
If you intend to run heavy loads with your engine off, you would be well-served to consider a battery isolator (www.surepower.com) and a deep-discharge battery, like the Optima yellow-top. Draining your starting battery with the stereo will greatly accelerate the wear on the battery.
After driving around, the power was staying full the entire time and it is
turning off with my head unit although it is also connected to the power as
well. What I did was run a connection from the head unit to the remote amp
input and then connected that input to the power and it worked. If I remove
any connection the amp does not work. It does have a power light indicator
and it goes off with the hu thats how I'm basing the amp turns off. But the
sound is great and I'm enjoyin them thanks to everyones help.
