In the link below is a pickup that I have been watching. I have yet to contact the seller as there is a worry about this truck. Over all in the pictures, which can be deceiving, it looks fairly clean.
My questions is what could be causing the noisy pulley? Just the pulley itself? Is this something common on 7.3 w/ over 220k miles?
It could be anything in the pulley system. Idlers/tensioners arent bad, but if your talking vacuum pump or ac pulley making the racket, there would be a little more involved.
You would have to decide if thats a deal breaker or not. I would go look at the truck at least, and if if looks like its going to be a basket case, then I would walk away. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Theres a checklist somewhere around here that gives you a good idea of things to check when considering the purchase of a OBS PSD.
For that price I would buy it noisy pulley or not.
+1. Even if there wasn't a squealing noise, you'll have to fix something and probably more than one thing very soon after buying the truck. All part of buying a 20 year old truck.
