Just got a letter in the mail, that the passenger side airbag might send metal fragments my way when deployed and kill me. I have a 2005 Ranger. The dealers are waiting for the replacement parts to be ready. Fun stuff. Passenger side airbag turned off. Yay.
Oh and welcome to the board. Modify your sig so we know what you are driving (engine, tranny, body style, etc) and post away your questions, concerns or whatever we might be able to help you with!
I got into an accident in my 2006 Ranger about 4 years ago, airbags deployed. I didn't get any shrapnel from it. Got my truck fixed and back on the road, and now I'm receiving this recall too. I wonder if my replacement airbag is also "defective?" Regardless, I'm bringing it to the dealer once the parts are in.
Is it possible to disable airbags in such a way as not effect other systems or components? In other words is there a dedicated fuse or relay that pertains only to the airbags?
I don't know about your 2009, but my 2004 has an on-off switch for the passenger airbag only. To use it, you need to insert your key into the switch. It's located in the dash, in the middle, near the bottom.
I just got my recall notification, and it's for the passenger side only.
No, they aren't selectable. The driver air bag has never had any method for disabling either.
This is part of the problem, having a bomb pointed at yer face and no way to turn it off.
Easy to disable both air bags . I wont tell you how .... But look at the fuse boxes . You will have the air bag lamp on hard , system disabled when lamp on .
