over drive issue

I would like to thank everyone that had offered advise on my 98 ranger tranny problem, slipping out of over drive. I have asked machanics at the dealership and they said to replace the shift solenoid, did that with no change, asked a friends machanic and he said to change the torque converter and that will take care of the problem. $75.00 for the converter and $350.00 for labor, he changed it and it shifts like new and the over drive light does not come on. I wish I would have done that two years ago but oh well, thanks again everyone.

Thanks for getting back to us on what worked! So often we have new members join up with a problem and make some suggestions and never hear from them again and are left to wonder if the problem was solved. Of course, with a ranger of that vintage Im assuming you will be around a lot posting with needs of more help!!!

OK, good feedback on the repair of your tranny woes, posted way back in 2012 & 13, where jk080 correctly suggested the problem was likely the torque converter in a 2013 answer to your query. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...l#post13761027
Would be interesting to know if you ever come by the ELM scantool & had it scan the tranny controller for codes & if so, what code clues did it find????
