OK, I've had enough already, I swear every year a new animal gets dumped in my yard, a couple of days ago, I found a cute little chocolate doberman looking puppy in my yard....this makes 4 dogs now, 3 of which I found in my yard, not to mention the many cats......EEKS!!! The thing is, although I don't want anymore pets, they are all too cute to give up & everyone tries to make me feel guilty about giving them up!! I do have land & do get free dog food most of the time (I work in a kennel) I'm just hoping he don't get as big as the rottie I found a few years back, which has come to be my baby & is very jealous of the new pup. Does anyone else have this sort of problem?? I'm in the boonies & know that these animals are being dumped, there is no way a pup this small made it out here. How can people get a pup then just dump it? That just kills me!! I don't want to be the new local animal shelter!!
i think most of them aren't responsible to begin with and rather than getting them spayed or neutered when the first get the animal, the animal gets pregnate and then they have no intentions of keep the animals and can't get rid of them. Rather than taking them to the shelter, they do what in their mind seems more humane (and is no where near humane) and dump them at somebody's house out in the country for them to take care of. When we lived in the country the exact same thing happened....breaks your heart that people don't care any more than that!!!!

I swear there is a huge neon sign somewhere in my yard that radiates at a frequency only cats can see that says, "These people are pushovers!"
Every stray cat within a mile radius I think, will end up on our doorstep with it's raggedy fur and pitiful, empty belly meow. And yes we are pushovers.
When you take an animal into your house, it becomes a part of your family. I know there are people out there who arent smart enough or deserving of even owning a pet rock and animal cruelty laws should be stiffer than they are. Now, Im no animal rights activist, but I have had some mighty fine critters in my life. I had a most wonderful Siamese cat with me for 22+ years, before her innards started giving out on her. She was the love of my single life. I still go out to her grave now and then. She was the birth product of a stray Siamese that was either dumped off or just wandered in. Her mom was with me for 15 years before she had to be put to rest.
People who dump animals are a pretty low form of life, somewhere between slug and amoeba.
I dont think thier as high of a life form as a slug. I'de say no more than a tick or flea. My family has adopted several cats that have been abandonded in our apartments. On that is over 18 years old, and one that is the nicest cat that ever existed.
At least they were dumped in a place where they'd get a good home. Not that I support what the people did (at all! ) but at least your critters found you.
When we were building the last house we lived in someone dumped a litter of puppies on the site. There was 3-4 of the cute things. We kept one of them and made sure the rest found good homes. He was a Lab/Pit Bull mix and was the sweetest thing there was (which he got from both parents, contrary to popular belief)
When my mom was young she had a little black cat named Tar Baby who they found at about 6 wks old behind a can of beans in the grocery store! Can you believe that? Who would dump a little baby kitten in a grocery store! She found a good home, but the people who left her didn't know she would.
All of our cats are strays, all three of them have there own little personalities. My favorite little thing is when a fly or one of the various bugs around here gets inside they all go sfter it like mad, and then make us clean up the mess.
We've gotten 3 dogs over the years from people dumping them off. 2 of them were black labs that were dumped in the ditch during a snow storm. I hate people. This spring my girlfriend got 2 hounds from someone dumping them....did I mention I hate those people??
Sharilynn72, Well I understand all too well about pet dumping! Sounds like you and my Wife would get along! We have had 4 bogs and 1 cat in the last 2 months! This is just this year!
1 Rott - Nice dog
2 labs - 1 black and 1 Choc
1 Cat - Too Cute!
Dumpers are lower than whale cr@p on the bottom of the ocean . Luckily, any cats end up with our dairy farmer neighbor's collection (keeps our rodent population in control), but the dogs , our dog warden never comes out, law enforcement is no help, most of the canine drop-offs have been sick or mean- I've had to shoot 3- the hardest thing I've ever done, but they did NOT suffer at my hand.
I agree with you all, especially about whale crap at the bottom of the ocean...LOL, I am a pushover when it comes to the critters, heck I've also adopted a ball python that was about to be killed by its cruel owner & a tarantula from someone that was moving & couldn't take it.
I just wish people would really use their heads when they get the sudden urge to take an animal home, its more work than just feeding them & kicking them out to do their business, it's like having a child......they need humans for a healthy life! It's really annoying to see all of these FREE KITTENS or PUPPIES signs, just spend the little bit of money it costs to spay or neuter them & save yourself the hassle of finding a home for them or DUMPING them! A LITTLE COMMON SENSE GOES A LOOOOONG WAY!!
I've never had an animal dumped on me but I did get a dog from someone who was going to put it down just cause they couldn't get rid of it. Its a small dog, about 5 pounds. I've had him for about a year and a half. I think the previous owners never played with him and must have been kind of mean. He won't play any and always just goes into the corner to lay down if he's not eating. It took a while for him to warm up enough to me to come lay down near me. Now he does all the time cause he knows I'm a sucker for rubbing his belly. I get asked questions as to why a 22 year old guy with a big truck would have such a small dog. I just couldn't let the poor little guy go to waste. I don't care what people think. He may not be well trained and may be really small but he's my co-pilot in my truck. I thought when I got him I'd find him a good home, turns out its my home. I just can't let my little buddy go. Call me a sap but I don't care.
That is soooo cool, you wouldn't think that men would have such a sappy side when it comes to animals, but I know this for a fact......I have turned my husband into a softie for the little creatures, maybe too much, when this new puppy showed up, I was gonna give him to a friend, but he just couldn't let him go. I love a sappy man....LOL
