I am going to look at a 2000 excursion Eddie Bauer all wheel drive v10 167000kms, I have been doing some reading and found a lot of people say the plugs blow out, is there ways to prevent this? I read that you just have to tighten your plugs every so often will this work to prevent the blow out? Any other tips or advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

Reason: Excursion not expedition
I think the plugs getting spit out were due to improperly or over tightening. I think the earlier versions had less threads for the spark plugs. On the V10 section there is some pretty good info on the plugs.
Snowseeker has been doing some work on his new(ish) v10, making new plug inserts and the like in this forum, might take a look at that too.
Broken exhaust manifold studs have been the only issue with my V10. Been a solid motor and I've worked it. Performance and economy will improve if you open it's airways. Is it the 2V or 3V or both blowing plugs?
I had a 2000, had broken exhaust studs so check for that. Spark plugs were fine. Finding one with so called low miles is almost impossible now. My 2000 had 140K. I sold it and 2 years later bought an 2004 with 139K on her. If you intend to use the 4WD I recommend to take the hubs off, apart, clean and lube them. Check the tech folder it is great. Good luck
1. Upgrade to the '03+ 2V heads that have more threads per plug hole (the '00 - '02 have 4 threads)
2. Install Timesert (or equivalent) aluminum threaded inserts in each plug hole.
3. Install spark plugs on a cold engine with proper torque (12 - 14lbs) and check twice a year to make sure they aren't coming loose.
