Can anyone confirm that I should be able to hear a reasonably loud 'whoosh' sound when letting off the gas after hard acceleration?
I've had this ex for a few months now, and I've been having a strange 'whistle/whine' sometimes. Today I took the drivers side of the intake stuff all apart and replaced some cracked vacume lines, replaced the stock air-box with a 6637 airfilter, and cleaned and tightened all of the IC piping.
After all that I took it for a test drive and heard the 'whoosh' for the first time.
Not sure what I fixed (or broke).
I believe that is the sound of how awesome our trucks really are... . Actually it is probable just a result of the 6637 in place of the stock air box, just letting the engine breathe a little more vocally. I am sure that others will have more information about the difference between the stock airbox and the 6637 setup.
I can't see your signature because the lovely mobile app doesn't allow that. But talking about a 6637, then you've got a 7.3. Whoosh, whine, it's all the joys of owning a turbo charged vehicle. The whine is the turbo spooling and building boost. The whoosh is the blowoff valve releasing excess pressure. Totally normal.
Thanks for the encouraging words. I kinda figured that it was 'supposed' to sound that way but I didn't want to assume to much and do some damage.
I like the extra sound - the truck is already loud enough but this is kinda fun - vroom -> whoosh, vroom -> whoosh, the neighbors are probably calling the local police right now.....
