My AC is blowing warm air when on Max AC. I checked the freon level with a gauge purchased at an auto parts store, level is ok. looking for a few quick tips before taking to shop.
The first thing I would do is confirm that the compressor is running - when you put it on Max A/C, does the clutch engage and the compressor turn?
When you said Freon - did you mean R-12 or do you mean refrigerant; your Expy has R-134 not R-12. If you used an R-12 gauge I'm not sure how you would have hooked it up w/out an adapter.
My 99 EB was blowing warm air and the compressor was cycling on and off every 20 seconds. I added 14oz of R-134 (even though the -yellow-blue-red gauge that came with the can showed it was just on the edge of being ok. After the 14 oz - back to normal. Very cold air, cycling compressor every 1-2 mins.
Thank you for the info. The compressor is running when i go to max AC. The refrigerant I am using to top off is R134. The gauge has the refrig in the green.
The gauge on the can of 134 that I used also showed that my system was in the green, but it was in the lower part of the gauge. I was surprised - I was thinking it would show a very low charge.
All I can say is that I added a can it totally fixed it. I understand that 134 will leak slowly over time through the hoses.
My 03 is really trippin me out ..... took it to the shop got the switch fixed and forgot to tell them that the air was warm as summer. Anywho, recharged system and seemed ok... cold as alaska for about 2 months and one day... summer again!!! got ridiculous quote to just check it so i decided to add more 134 since it was the cheapest way for the time being and ran ok for one day... is there a big *** leak somewhere? compressor seems to work ok for what i can tell... it doesn't cycle on and off like before maybe takes longer.... any help out there before i go and break the biggy bank on this one?
bmore1804 your problem is most likely the damper that controls the flow of air over your heater coil. You may want to have a qualified mechanic check it out.
ExpeditionNutt, I would be willing to bet you have a leak. Have a qualified mechanic perform a leak test using a florescent dye to find the source of the problem. If your only getting cold air only after you add r-134a then you have got to be loosing it somewhere.
