7.3 muffler question

Ill ask one more quick question then stop posting in here for a bit. Is our mufflers the flow through style or the constricting style? Just wondering if deleting the muffler is worth it to help with the egts.

Every time a muffler is deleted, anywhere from sea to shining sea, a bald eagle is born.

A stock muffler?
Delete it.
Really you need to buy an exhaust kit and replace the down pipe. The stock unit is truly terrible

See. None of us are perfect, well except Bill, point being, get opinions about what to do. We all like answering questions and helping out the next guy. I would get rid of the stock system personally. They do flow better. By the best mod you can do is get your truck running right. A properly running truck is the best place to start.

The additional noise causes the egg to crack.....

(Bald eagles are hatched, BTW..... )

Anyway.... as said above, START with the downpipe. It's a bigger restriction than the muffler, and generally, the further upstream that you unrestrict (well, de-restrict) the exhaust, the more effective it is.

OP already has a DP.... Regarding deleting the muffler and helping (lowering) EGT's perhaps on a sustained long pull, average daily driving I'd not think so. Deleting the stock muffler will get you a harsh exhaust note (when putting your foot into it), if towing can make for obnoxious drone reflected back off what you are towing. Stock exhaust (with stock muffler) is good to about 400 RWHP, now having said that most people change out long before that. What I've done is yank the muffler, knock the stuffing out of the Cat and it acts like a resonator, exhaust note is not too harsh, no drone and works until you opt for a 4 or 5" system.

My OEM stock muffler is a flow-through type and does not seem to create any significant backpressure. I've still got mine and it seems to be in great shape.

Installing a 3-inch downpipe in place of the pancaked OEM is the best improvement I could find. I also lost the cat in the fear it would get a hairball sooner or later. I kept the rest of the stock 3.5-inch exhaust pipe because I believe it's made of durable stainless steel and is bigger than the downpipe anyway, so it shouldn't be a restriction.

Bill is not perfect, he can't figure out how to turn the abs light off.

Well, in this case, they fly fully grown out of the tailpipe when he fires up the engine, beginning their mission to spread justice and freedom throughout the world. Every time he starts the truck.

To only briefly get back to the initial post, what effect does removing the muffler have on EGTs, if any? Anyone have documentation?
