I'm looking into an exhuast system and I've read about poeple not installing the muffler with the rest of the system. What does it benefit you to not have the muffler? What does the muffler do that is not too favorable? Thanks in advance.
Good Question, I've pondered this myself. Currently I have a stock exhaust system with the muffler cut out. It was like this when I bought it. Who ever had it before cut the muffler out and welded in a straight pipe. I like the sound. But I would like to replace the stock system due to the down pipe and the fact that it is pretty rusted. I'm somewhat sceptical about putting in a new system and going back to a muffler. I don't know what is best either. Sorry I don't have any answer but I'm sure one of these guys does.
Well, whether you realized it or not, you answered part of my question. The sound of the systems seems to have something to do with it. But who knows, one of the more knowledgable guys will have a better idea about this.
no muffler. save money and dont buy one. I have a 4" turbo back exhaust and have installed it without the muffler. Sounds good to me. Not much louder in cab either unless i open both passenger windows (crew cab) but even still its not too loud.
I have an Excursion though, so I need something to make the pipe long enough to go out the back the way the stock pipe did. Are any of the exhuast systems long enough to where I can install it would the muffler?
I plan on going with either a Bullydog or Banks 4" Stainless Steel system without the muffler. Seeing as I own an Excursion and not an F-250, will I need an extension in order to install the system properly without the muffler? In addition to that, I wanted to get the Banks Power Elbow to ease up on some of the restriction, allowing for more performance. Would this work on any other system besides a Banks system? I know this is a stupid question, but sometimes stupid questions yield good answers. Besides, I don't know what kind of response I would get from Banks if I e-mailed them. Anyone with any type of input on this is more than welcomed to post. Thanks in advance.
The long radius on the Power Elbow puts the outlet in a different location. I believe they supply a different down pipe section to match the pipe to the elbow. Not sure if it is just an adaptor pipe when purchased without the system.
