my 96 F150 has the 5.0 with automatic and electric shift 4x4. truck currently
has 195K and runs out fine. no engine light on ( yes it works ) not power issues. the engine has a annoying tick. at first i thought the torque converter was loose. but so far all the proper lock nuts are in place and tight. the former owner had some trans work done and who ever did the install didn't know what the heck they where doing. wiring was wrapped around the front drive shaft. LH cross member top bracket is missing. rear drive shaft only had 2 bolts in it.
in short i was hoping the noise was something stupid. the more i listen the more i think it's a wrist pin. has anyone run into this issue before with there 5.0 and what was the cause of the noise. should i consider looking for another engine?
the gauge on the dash shows dead center in normal. i have not installed a aftermarket gauge yet. it has a fresh oil change. 10w30 conventional with motorcraft filter.

Anything over 5-7 PSI will make the guage read in the normal range. The sender is a simple switch. The gauge has a resistor across it. You need a real mechanical gauge to verify the oil pressure.
